THE SCRIPTURES – In Iambic Pentameter

When discussing God’s written words to man,

One must consider everything he can;

Not only crazy supernatural,

But also cold, hard facts – historical.

As we begin discussion, let me state:

Inspiration is the scriptural trait;

Preservation by God’s unchanging hand

Keeps the words inerrant as He had planned.

Accuracy becomes a major theme

When proving Scriptures are what we them deem.

The facts are that not just historic’lly,

But prophetically, scientific’lly

And princip’lly God’s Word has no mistakes.

(It’s power, too, compelling argue makes.)

First, a look at past and preservation.

God gave man His Word through inspiration.

The Bible was not writ by just one man

(As was the book of Mormon and Q’ran),

But holy men of God, as they were moved,

Spake the words that were by God all-approved.

God breathed the Holy Scriptures in their ears,

Over the course of several hundred years,

To men who from all diff’rent backgrounds came.

Forty writers plus took that holy flame

And passed it down to us – through word and pen –

God’s Holy Word, giv’n by inspiration.

Tho’ many’ve tried to quench the Holy Writ,

God promises that He will preserve it,

And to the end of time we’ll have His Word –

Preserved and inspired and undeterred.

Now we’ve looked at past and preservation;

Let’s take a glance at purpose – salvation.

Christ’s purpose was to seek and save the lost –

This redeeming plan in words was embossed

And bound together in single great Book,

Which, for salvation’s plan, we now do look.

Its books, chapters, verses, words, and pages

Contain this wisdom for all the ages.

But its wisdom stops not with salvation;

All this Scripture (giv’n by inspiration)

Guides each Christian in his quest for good works,

In his quest to taste the Christian life’s perks.

It profits doctrine, reproof, correction,

And righteousness’ holy instruction.

But if we hap upon a skeptic strong,

Who feels that we are spiritually wrong,

What theories may we use as evidence?

What arguments giv’n in the Book’s defense?

We may stand boldly on its purity

And on it secular veracity.

Factually it cannot be disputed;

Historic’lly it can’t be refuted.

It rightly recounts minutest details;

Its accuracy simply never fails.

It not only records historical,

But its pages hold the prophetical.

What extraordinary audacity

In its own foretelling capacity!

Hundreds of future details and events,

(Some of greater or lesser relevance)

With precision, described in Holy Writ.

And those fulfilled – fulfilled in ev’ry wit.

Historically, prophetically,

And without spot, scientifically.

Several dozen instances in Scripture

A verse unto a science doth refer,

And without exception, without error,

Science and the Bible always mirror.

Physics, geology, astronomy –

It’s also accurate principally.

Like a soft answer calms old anger’s blow,

You will always reap whatever you sow.

In concluding these few lines on God’s Word,

Not to mention power would be absurd.

It frees the alcoholic from his chains;

The small child, and the hoary head it trains.

It heals the broken hearts of marriage lost;

It saves us from paying hell-fire’s cost.

The prodigal back home again it guides,

While peace and joy in troubled hearts it hides.

The Bible is unique, by God-spoken,

With divine preservation unbroken;

With purpose to save each and ev’ry soul –

With all purity, undeniable.

For the lifeless it alone holds the key

To quicken, regene; the bound, to set free.

The Bible holds for all saints the power;

Let us wield it well this crucial hour!
