OUR PREACHER MAN

Ran across this poem I wrote for my pastor while I was in high school…

Our Preacher Man

Who is that man that walks alone,

Who begs for power at God’s throne,

Who walks with God both night and day,

Who often stops to kneel and pray?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that boweth so

Beneath his people’s burdens, low;

Who takes the time to teach the way,

And love his people from day to day?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that loves all men,

Who, each day, share God’s true plan,

Yet hates their sin and preaches hard

To keep his people from getting scarred?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man with spirit high,

Despite long days and nights that fly,

Who looks for Christ’s return someday,

And comforted by this, goes on his way?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that loves his teens,

And strives to keep out worldly scenes;

Who prays and loves and cares for us,

Like a father o’er his children must?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that has a care,

And goes to God to cry and share,

Yet comes to church with happy face,

Yes, church – I think his favorite place?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that always smiles,

Tho’ life has given its share of miles;

Who loves to laugh and have some fun,

And joke around with everyone?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man who teaches deep,

So deep his Algebra students weep;

Who loves and cares for his kids in school,

With paddle stops the broken rule?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that we adore,

We preacher boys who love him for

Preaching the Word hard and long,

Both teary-eyed and singing son?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that giveth hope

To an area that cannot cope

Without the message of God’s Son,

The message – He died for everyone?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that lacketh praise,

Who deserves our care in many ways,

Many more than we give now –

A hundred thousand more, I trow?

He is our preacher man.

Who is that man that yearns our love,

Who gives advice from God above;

Who’s always there to lend an ear,

Our problems and our cares to hear?

He is our preacher man.

And now we’d like to tell this man

The most important thing we think we can,

We’d like the world’s greatest pastor to know

That, not only are you our hero,

But, we love you, preacher man.
